Introduction

The Galter Health Sciences Library website exists to carry out the mission of the library.

Galter Library does not collect personal information about you when you visit our website, unless you choose to provide that information to us. If you do choose to provide personal information, the information you submit to the library's website is only shared with another agency, such as a vendor, if the inquiry relates to that agency, or is otherwise required by law. The library does not compile individual profiles to share information with private organizations. The library does not collect information for commercial marketing.

Information Collected and Stored Automatically

When you visit the Galter Library website, information about your visit will be gathered and stored automatically. This information does not identify the user personally. Information that is automatically collected and stored includes:

  • the Internet domain and IP address from which the library's website was accessed   
  • the type of browser and operating system used to access the library's website
  • date and time the library's website was accessed
  • pages visited
  • the address of the last website visited before linking to the library's website

This information is used to measure the number of visitors to the various sections of our site and identify system performance or problem areas. We also use this information to help us expand the coverage of the site, to analyze patterns of usage, and to make the site more useful.

Personally-Provided Information

If you choose to provide us with personal information by sending an email, or by filling out a form with your personal information and submitting it through our website, we use that information to respond to your message and to help us provide you with information or material that you request.

The library will store any information you enter or action you perform on the library's website. You can choose not to provide certain information, but then you will not be able to take advantage of many of the library website's features. We use the information that you provide for such purposes as customizing your personalized library website, providing off-campus access to library resources, accessing Interlibrary Loan services, recommending resources, improving our website, and communicating with you.

Cookies

A "cookie" is a small file that the website transfers to your computer's hard disk allowing our server to "remember" specific information about your session. The cookie and the information about your session will be destroyed automatically shortly after you close your browser - it is not permanently stored on your computer. Long-term cookies may also be stored on your computer in order to streamline the authentication process when re-visiting the site.  This function can be disabled at your request.
