Clinical and Translational Personas Now Available

PDF

Evidence-based profiles of roles across the translational workforce are now available through CTS-Personas, a project of the Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Program, National Center for Data to Health (CD2H), led by Sara Gonzales, Data Librarian at Galter Health Sciences Library & Learning Center. The Persona profiles cover the spectrum of the translational ecosystem, from basic science to clinical research to community implementation. Each profile details clinical and translational employees’ key responsibilities, motivators, goals, software use, pain points, and professional development needs. Using this knowledge, developers, librarians, administrators, and many others within the CTSA hubs and beyond can tailor their projects to serve targeted audiences. The profiles and support documents are available for download now. Learn more at http://bit.ly/CTS-Personas and at the CD2H website's news page.

Persona Profiles are available for the following translational workforce roles:

  • Basic Scientist
  • Biostatistician
  • Center Administrator
  • Clinical Research Coordinator
  • Community-Engaged Researcher
  • Data Analyst
  • Developer

Background for the CTS-Personas project

Project partners from Northwestern University, Washington University, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and Oregon Health & Science University have collaborated on the CTS-Personas project throughout 2019. Inspired by projects such as Collections as Data Personas and Voices of Veterans, the partners created evidence-based Persona profiles by examining CTSA organizational charts and websites, job listings, and literature on the workforce. The team also conducted interviews with people employed in the various roles to supplement and fortify the research with real-life experience. The resulting profiles demonstrate up-to-date, genuine needs and concerns in the CTSA community, and can be a vital resource to design solutions that meet key needs.

CTS-Personas has been managed in an open GitHub repository and is currently accepting new Issues for comment and feedback on the project. The profile documents, user guidebook, and other supplemental information are available on the CTS-Personas website. Individual Persona profiles may be downloaded from DigitalHub.
