We are thrilled to announce that Galter Research Librarian, Eileen Wafford, MSt, MLIS, has been appointed to serve on the Illinois’ Stakeholder Advisory Group (SAG) for Region 6 of the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM).
As a member of the Illinois’ SAG, Eileen will help guide the development and implementation of an action plan to address health issues and disparities in populations and areas that are traditionally underserved or underrepresented in medicine. She is looking forward to leveraging her experiences, values, and passions to advance health initiatives in her home state. Eileen will add significant insight by bringing the expertise of an educator, researcher, librarian, and community member who continually participates in projects that aim to reduce health disparities.
Eileen has been a Research Librarian in the Research and Information Services department at Galter Library since 2015. She is part of multiple interdisciplinary collaborations and the liaison librarian to various departments, institutes, and centers at the Feinberg School of Medicine. Eileen has supported over 50 systematic and scoping reviews on topics that range from adult and pediatric oncology, surgery, and physical therapy. Additionally, she is currently serving as a co-investigator on two grant projects centered on facilitating partnerships between researchers, the Chicago Public Library, and community members to connect people from diverse backgrounds with information on clinical trials and preventive health services.
Eileen regularly contributes to outreach initiatives and collaborations that provide equal access to health information and research resources. She supports students from local community colleges and universities who participate in the Chicago Cancer Health Equity Collaborative summer fellowship by providing library workshops on how to recognize information gaps, formulate search strategies, and critically evaluate literature. She also partners with faculty and staff at Feinberg and Northwestern Memorial Hospital to provide students in the Northwestern Medicine Scholars Program at Westinghouse College Prep with hands-on training on how to locate, access, and appraise sources of health information using basic and advanced searching techniques. In all her responsibilities, Eileen is consistent in her service to others and is dedicated to closing achievement gaps for all people from all walks of life.
Please help us in congratulating Eileen on her appointment! We are grateful for the excellent work that she does to serve the Feinberg community and beyond. We know that Eileen’s expertise and ability to translate ideas into action will be an incredible asset to the Illinois’ Stakeholder Advisory Group, and we look forward to the impact she will have on such critical work!
