Matt Baumann, MS, Developer

Matt Baumann HeadshotPlease join us in a warm welcome to our new developer, Matt Baumann! Matt received an MS in Software Engineering from Loyola University in 2016 and just finished an MA in Medical Humanities and Bioethics here at Northwestern. For the past six years, he has been working as a full stack developer for the Applied Research Informatics Group within NUCATS. During his time at NUCATS, Matt managed Competitions, an open-source tool to run NIH-style peer review of competitions, pilot projects and research proposals, and I2B2 (Informatics for Integrating Biology and the Bedside).

Prior to his education in computer science, Matt pursued graduate work in classical archaeology and art history applying his background in research and cataloging to libraries, museums, and archeological excavations. Through these experiences, he worked with various information management systems and recognized a consistent disconnect in the way that information was communicated and the necessity for a layer of support in making complex research usable and accessible to the public. Matt is looking forward to the way that his role at Galter and the NNLM National Evaluation Center (NEC) positions him to utilize his skill set to enhance the accessibility, usability, and integrity of research.

Matt works in collaboration with our developers, library team, and the NEC to help build and implement evaluation resources and manage the NEC Data Warehouse. We are excited to have Matt’s expertise and background that uniquely intersects with the work being done here at Galter and the NEC to provide support and improve access to biomedical information.
