Amelia Bucek HeadshotGalter Library is excited to announce that Amelia Bucek, MPH, has been named Director of Evaluation at the Northwestern University Clinical and Translational Sciences (NUCATS) Institute. Over the past year, Bucek worked in a research role uniquely positioned within the evaluation core at the library to support the NURTURE program, enhancing the development and retention of diverse research teams.

With over a decade of experience in research evaluation and project management, Bucek will expand this evaluation core in her role as NUCATS new Director of Evaluation by leading continuous improvement as part of the CTSA grant awarded by the National Center for Advancing Translations Sciences (NCATS) at the NIH.

“I’m excited about all the evaluation possibilities at NUCATS. The programming and reach of this institute are massive!” says Bucek “There is a lot of opportunity to use data-driven methods to support the mission and demonstrate impact.”

Bucek’s commitment to public health along with her expertise in enhancing research outcomes will significantly add to the development and implementation of comprehensive evaluation plans at NUCATS. As Director of Evaluation, she will lead cross-functional teams to define metrics, ensure effective data collection, and produce timely results that support program goals.

“My academic background is in public health, and I believe synergies between scientists, communities, and policy makers can improve community health outcomes and support health equity. I keep this bigger picture front of mind, and it helps drive my evaluation work,” states Bucek.

Before Northwestern, she served as the Grant Program Manager at Rush University Medical Center overseeing federally funded research projects focused on health equity and improving project infrastructure to ensure high-quality data collection and analysis. Bucek’s expertise is a tremendous asset as she will collaborate with Feinberg researchers on evaluation, process improvement, and metrics for large grants.

She is most looking forward to immersing herself in the broader research evaluation community, fostering collaborations that drive creative problem-solving to strengthen and cultivate essential partnerships for the faculty and staff at NUCATS. Bucek is “blown away by the resources and training that NUCATS offers and the amazing team of faculty and staff that make it happen.”

Galter is thrilled that Amelia Bucek has been named the new Director of Evaluation at NUCATS, confident that she will be a driving force in developing an evaluation framework that supports data-driven decision-making to further the institute's mission and contribute to advancing health equity.
