Dr. Louis Keith Donates Portrait to Galter Library

A festive occasion was marked on April 17th with a reception and unveiling of Dr. Louis Keith’s portrait in Dollie’s Corner. Dr. Sherman Elias, department chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Dr. John Sciarra, former chair of the department, shared personal reflections of Dr. Keith.

Dr. Keith, a native of Chicago, graduated from the Chicago Medical School, and began his appointment at Northwestern in 1975. He is a prolific writer and lecturer of international stature, with many publications to his credit. He is now professor emeritus. In 1977, he and his twin brother, Donald, founded the Center for the Study of Multiple Birth at Northwestern.

He is noted for his lifelong work in promoting and improving the health and well-being of multiple birth children and their families around the world and is an advocate for women’s health. Dr. Keith has also served as a consultant, has contributed his time to many professional organizations and has received many international awards and honors.
