In late August, the Galter Health Sciences Library began sending its first shipments of lower use and older materials to the Northwestern University’s Oak Grove Library Center. Completed in the fall of 2011, the remote storage facility is a state-of-the-art climate and temperature controlled, high density, secure shelving facility, located in Waukegan, IL.
Over the next months, the Galter Library will send print dissertations and theses, print journals (many having online counterparts), and older print books that have not been otherwise designated to remain on the Chicago campus (e.g. Special Collections, Reserves, Quick Reference). We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and will place signs and notices in areas of highest project activity.
Records in the Northwestern University libraries’ online catalog, NUcat, and GalterSearch on the Galter Library’s website will indicate that an item is at the Oak Grove Library Center. Because the center is not open to visitors, procedures are in place to request that needed book materials be sent to the requestor’s library. Requests can be made from the relevant NUcat record; find out how here.
