Northwestern University authors remain eligible to publish open access at no cost in Wiley journals under an extension of the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) agreement. The original contract covered January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2025, and, while the BTAA and Wiley finalize the upcoming renewal, it has now been extended through February 28, 2026.
Wiley Journals Agreement
Through this agreement, article publication charges (APCs) are covered for Northwestern corresponding authors publishing in all Wiley journals and all fully open access (gold) Wiley journals. Articles made open access are freely available for anyone to read, download, and share, which also supports NIH funded authors to comply with NIH public access policy
Coverage is subject to availability of BTAA-managed article allocations at the time an article is accepted.
Author Actions
Eligible authors should not pay APCs for articles covered under the agreement. To receive open access coverage:
- Identify your Northwestern affiliation during submission.
- For Wiley hybrid journals, use the Wiley Author Dashboard after acceptance to select the open access option and confirm BTAA affiliation. Using an “@northwestern.edu” email and connecting via the Northwestern network (on campus or VPN) helps Wiley verify eligibility automatically.
- For Wiley gold journals, select “My institution or funder has an agreement with Wiley…” during submission and use the Wiley Account Code Tool to enter Northwestern’s account code.
